Environmental Noise Measurements

Noiseair have been commissioned to carry out a series of noise measurements over a 3 day period in order to monitor environmental noise impact from traffic noise etc to a new 114 bedroomed hotel situated in the centre of Leicester City. The building construction work is now well under way and Noiseair will work closely with the main contractor until proposed completion in February 2011.
Nearing completion, further noise measurements will be carried out to confirm that the new hotel meets the required standard in accordance with Part E building regulations (sound insulation).

Acoustic Doors!

Large or small... EVERY project to Noiseair is important! We have recently designed & manufactured a small acoustic door set for a local building company, to be incorporated into an existing building. Although only a small door our clients requirements were quite intricate, including the manufacture using polished Stainless Steel and several other bespoke requirements that we fulfilled without problem.

Home Studio Build Project

Our client wanted to build a home studio to be used for band practice, including drums, and her priority was not to become a noise nuisance to her neighbour! In order to achieve maximum results we recommended an initial site survey where we conducted a series of noise measurements to the proposed room area.
We recommended that a 'room in a room' type studio be constructed, which would also need to be double walled and fully sealed with ventilation.
Our client thankfully contacted us at the project design stage... so important, and by doing this we were not only able to make our recommendations but able to work alongside the builder too!
Quite often as Acoustic Consultants we are called in AFTER building work has been completed only to find that a bit of foam stuck to an adjoining wall... unfortunately will not work!!

Acoustic Curtain For Demolition Site

Noiseair have recently supplied a number of acoustic curtains to our client who was looking to reduce noise, on a temporary basis, whilst working on a demolition site. This acoustic barrier not only gave our client the noise reduction he was looking for but also a cost effective solution that could be easily dismantled and re-used over and over again should he need it.

Acoustic Fencing to garden boundary

Our client contacted us with a commonly experienced problem of her garden backing onto a public park area which was becoming a noise nuisance with children playing and youths gathering there in the evenings.

We carried out noise measurements and established that it would be beneficial to construct an acoustic fence to the boundaries which would not only reduce the noise levels to an acceptable level but also would double up to provide a more adequate security boundary.

Noiseair supplied acoustic quilting to be used as a noise screen, which when attached to bespoke scaffolding on site gave them the cost effective solution they were looking for.

Noise Testing for Offices

Noiseair have recently carried out an investigative noise survey for EPYX Ltd to their office premises. They felt that soundproofing between offices was not sufficient and after conducting noise tests Noiseair were happy to recommend noise mitigation measures along with a concise report.

Acoustic Booth for Harpist in London!

We recently received quite an unusual enquiry... a young lady harpist, living in the centre of London...in a flat... who needed to practise the harp, and without annoying her neighbours...! Our acoustician visited the flat and took a series of noise readings and from that we recommended our single walled 50mm modular acoustic booth. The music practice booth was recently installed and our client is more than happy with the results!

Acoustic Enclosure for the RSPB!

Early in April 2010 we were contacted by the RSPB Lincolnshire Wash Nature Reserve at Frampton, Boston... such a peaceful place, but for one noisy generator! After a very pleasant morning taking various noise readings (and enjoying the scenery) we were commissioned to design and install an acoustic enclosure to bring the noise emissions down to a minimum. This has now been achieved and our client is very happy... along with the birds & wildlife too!

Soundproofing to William Olds Youth Centre

Noiseair & Partners have supplied a new music practice booth at William Olds Youth Centre for youth club members to use for music practice, the project was overseen by Thomas Long & Sons Ltd

Acoustic Mirror - Malta

If you are travelling out to the island of Malta this summer and you are interested in acoustic engineering and World War II, you may find this landmark worth a visit. It is believed to be the only acoustic mirror built outside of the UK.
Built as an early warning system from enemy aircraft during 1934, the acoustic mirror is located at 'Maghtab' in between Sliema and Bugibba, a little off the beaten track but nevertheless not too hard to find. We travelled by hire car but still accessible by Malta's excellent (and renowned!!) bus service. Ask any of the 'locals' for directions, who refer to it as 'Il widna' ... Maltese for 'the ear'. Although the land now is owned by MaltaCom you can still get close enough to see the camouflage painting which is still visible blending the surrounding natural landscape.
During trials it was established that the range of the acoustic mirror was 21 to 37 miles, with an average of 25 miles, in contrast, the range of an unaided human ear was just 5 miles. It was estimated that this would provide a 6 minute warning of enemy aircraft approach at 250 mph.
Andrew Grantham has a special interest in Acoustic Mirrors and more information can be found at http://www.andrewgrantham.co.uk/soundmirrors/locations/il-widna-malta/

Soundproofing a band practice room

We very often get asked the question…. ‘We want to convert our garden shed into a music practice room for our rock band… can we effectively soundproof it so not to annoy our neighbours’? Our budget is also very limited!..... read more
